The dreaded punji sticks/pits would be set in spots liable to be walked through by adversary troops. The punji sticks might be disguised by common undergrowth, crops, grass, brush or comparative materials. They were regularly fused into different kinds of traps; for instance, a disguised pit into which an officer may fall. Even often covered in feces to cause infection
Even worse, sometimes a pit would be delved with the punji sticks angled downward. An troop venturing into the pit would find it difficult to expel their leg without doing serious harm causing severe damage to their body.
